How CPR Can Save a Life: A Complete Beginner's Guide
Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, and at any time. Whether it's at home, work, school, or during a sporting event, knowing how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) can make the difference between life and death.
At Seya First Aid, we believe everyone should have the confidence to respond during an emergency.
What Is CPR?
CPR, or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, is an emergency procedure that helps maintain blood flow and oxygen to the brain and other vital organs when someone's heart has stopped beating.
Early CPR significantly increases the chances of survival until professional medical help arrives.
When Should You Perform CPR?
CPR should be started if a person:
Is unconscious
Is not breathing normally
Has no signs of circulation
Always call 911 first or ask someone nearby to call while you begin CPR.
The Basic Steps of CPR
1. Check for Safety
Ensure the area is safe for both you and the victim.
2. Check Responsiveness
Tap the person's shoulders and ask loudly if they are okay.
3. Call Emergency Services
Call 911 immediately or ask another person to do so.
4. Begin Chest Compressions
Place your hands in the center of the chest.
Compress hard and fast:
Depth: about 5 to 6 cm
Rate: 100 to 120 compressions per minute
Allow the chest to fully recoil after each compression.
5. Use an AED if Available
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) provides voice instructions and can dramatically improve survival when used quickly.
Why CPR Training Matters
Watching a video is not the same as receiving hands-on training.
A certified CPR course teaches you:
Adult CPR
Child CPR
Infant CPR
AED use
Choking emergencies
Emergency scene management
Practical training helps build confidence so you can respond effectively during real emergencies.
